Where to Do Your Grocery Shopping in Montepulciano & Surroundings
Montepulciano has a charming mix of supermarkets, discount grocers, and small specialty shops some are much more convenient than others. Here are the main ones to know.
Conad
The Conad on Via E. Bernabei 4/a, just outside the city walls, is the most comprehensive choice.
- It offers a wide fresh-food section: fruit & veg, meats, cheeses; also bakery, deli, pantry goods, etc.
- It stays open throughout the day, which is helpful.
- Also good for local produce: you’ll find regional items among its offerings.
Eurospin
If you’re looking for a more budget-friendly option, Eurospin is located in San Biagio, at Via del Prato 7
- The store hours are generally from 08:00-20:00 except Sunday when they close earlier.
- While it has less variety than Conad, especially of the premium local products, it’s a solid choice for basics and discounts.

Along the main street and within the town walls, there are a few smaller shops and food-stores worth noting:
- Lo Sfizio (Alimentari Enoteca Lo Sfizio): a lovely place for cheeses, cured meats, local wine, pantry staples; great if you need just a few items or want something local.
- Other alimentari / mini-markets scattered on the main street (from Porta Al Prato up to Piazza Grande) offering fresh bread, local cheese, maybe olives or preserves. These are especially useful for day-to-day items without having to descend to a big supermarket.

Larger Supermarkets outside Montepulciano
For a broader selection or if you’re doing a bigger weekly shop, you’ll find larger supermarkets in Sinalunga, about 20 minutes by car, conveniently on the route toward Siena. These often have more space, more parking, and possibly a better variety for non-food items.
Tips for Choosing Where to Shop
Always consider the hours: smaller shops tend to close midday (siesta), while Conad tends to stay open more consistently.
If you’re staying inside town or in a property with limited transport, lean on Conad or one of the smaller alimentari shops.
For lighter shopping (daily bread, a few items), the local “alimentari / mini-market” stores in main street are perfect.
